Observation: the comment section on Tyler's new blog is unbearable.

Foxtrot Alpha used to have such great comments, but The Warzone’s comments are pretty much just 1/3 Russian Stans, 1/3 people arguing with the Stans, and 1/3 tacticool prepper kids.

It's kind of depressing. Tyler is still great, but I just don't find myself as interested in his stuff anymore.

FA’s comments are down too. I think most rational discussion went out the window and now it's purely variations on gawkers liberal bias.

So it’s just the FA commentariat without the Jalops. There was all that when he was here.

My favorite thing about FA was how Tyler would write about something and then a bunch of current and ex-military people would chime in with personal experiences. I really miss that.

Yeah. I still try to read his stuff, but half of what made FA awesome was the commenters. There were clearly people there who'd done the things he wrote about. Those were cool stories to read.

I disagree. There was definitely tons of crap, but it usually stayed in the grays and Tyler seemed pretty good about policing the comments himself.

That’s exactly how I feel. I loved reading through one of his articles and to go down to the comments and read someone’s first hand experiences or see people who clearly knew what they were talking about get into an argument over jet engine intakes.

it’s the same with Sean. When he wrote for Lanesplitter we had tons of discussion. The comments at Cycle World are *crickets*

It’s what we do. I don’t bother now unless it’s Chinook related. In the past I had some pretty good conversations with Tyler at FA.

And I stopped myself from posting over at the pissing contest that is The Warzone comments.

The comments are pretty bad over there. Too much doom and gloom without evidence or first hand knowledge/experience to back it up.

And nowhere near enough Fred Thompson.

I keep looking for that in the comments over there and it never shows up!

I’ve been trying to comment more on Cycle World, for some reason though the articles there just feel like articles, and not topics for discussion.

cycle world is stuck in the “print” mentality, where we are here to receive their wisdom, and if they deign to respond to a handful of “Letters to the Editor” we should be so lucky. Sean has hinted that part of the reason he’s there is to help change that.

I really hope he does, I loved him at Lanesplitter, and I still really enjoy his work, but the discussions were a huge part of what made Lanesplitter so good.

Tyler left, I don’t comment anymore.
